A patented V-cut pattern is engraved into the acrylic light guide allows the edge mounted LEDs to disperse light evenly across the acrylic. While it is possible to disperse light across acrylic without an engraved pattern, the problem occurs when the acrylic becomes larger. Undirected light will not disperse evenly.
